Carmen Lai, MPS IV Patient with High Determination
Carmen Lai was diagnosed with MPS type IV after her parents notice her finger are short and stubby. When she grows up, she was elected for a 1-year trial on Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT).After treatment she was again capable of brushing her hair and her eyesight became better. She also started her puberty.
However, at the end of 2012, she wasn’t allowed to enter the ERT program, therefore MLDA started a news coverage campaign to rally for support for Carmen’s and it worked out well. Soon Carmen was asked to have her ERT treatment at hospital in Kuala Lumpur under MOH in December 2012. Since then, her health continued to improve.
On 8th March 2016, Carmen showed that she was a grown up little girl by taking up the challenge to be interviewed by Astro. Carmen’s story was featured on V Buzz Astro Vinmeen. Carmen is now 18 years old and she grows up to achieve her ambition in life.
